A Way Of Life is a teenage tragedy which offers a chilling insight into racism whilst connecting us with the lives of five adolescents struggling to cling to their dreams. The film centres around teenage mother, Leigh-Anne Williams and her three friends: Robbie, a 17 year-old who is determined to move beyond his dead-end community; Gavin, a 17 year-old who is desperately chasing love; and Stephen, a 15 year-old who is yearning for a Welsh identity. All of them operating along the margins of society... until one day, paranoia, boredom, frustration and anger form a lethal combination. When her baby girl's future appears threatened, Leigh-Anne's Turkish Muslim neighbour becomes the target of pent up anger and humiliation. A ferocious murder takes place which is seemingly driven by racial hatred, and in a moment the teenagers seal their fate.
A violent yet powerful story of a young mother and her child, of teenage romance and friendship. A Way Of Life draws you into a world of poverty, love, tenderness and hurt... a world which will challenge the way you look at life.

Gritty drama that tries to get behind tabloid headlines to show the realities facing the deprived; it reveals ferocious and unlovely truths about racism as the first refuge of the unemployed and the waste of life that leads to unthinking violence.

Grim and harrowing, but a must-see
A relentlessly unromantic view of the prejudices and difficulties of the British underclassses. No part of this film is easy viewing, but it's praiseworthy ... read more »

Needed music
Gritty - yep. But where was the mood music. The kind of film Shakin Stevens could have appeared in as a hotdog seller. My mum cried all the way through it - ... read more »

Poor
Clumsy and poor, better of watching a good TV drama and I can't stand TV dramas.

uncomfortable viewing
Relentlessly bleak - superbly acted - not a film to be enjoyed, but a must to experience.
