A Woman in Paris
By a customer from Bracknell, Berkshire , 30 Dec 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
If you're looking for the typical Charlie Chaplin slapstick humour then this is not for you. It neither stars nor depicts the characters you,ve come to expect from the man. However this film does show the shear brilliance of Chaplin both as a visionary and as a studier of human behaviour, being the director of this romantic drama. The obvious and laboured visualisations previously seen in Chaplins work have been replaced by subtleties and twists of character and expression which, give realism of thoughts, actions and issues, showing life in the raw, sadly lacking in many of todays films.
We rented this DVD by going through the list quickly and picking it because of the Chaplin name but on seeing the opening statement that he would not be appearing in it, wondered if we had picked wisely. We were more than pleasantly surprised with this candid snapshot of a 1920s love story accompanied by some beautiful music.- Was this review helpful to you?
