    [Highly rated reviewer]

I had high hopes when renting this as soon as I saw who the main actors were but it just doesn't live up to my expectations. The opera itself is only about half an hour, which is a good thing as the jokes wear a little thin by the end. It is not devoid of laughs, hearing Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade singing in high pitch voices is a amazing, as is Berry's talent for composing and singing the many songs. It has been made to look very 80s, all filmed on one sound stage with awful props and equally awful editing (I believe there are even some star wipes).

So there are good elements to this but after it had finished I was left feeling that it could have been so much more. There is a nice fake documentary about Berry's character in the style of Dark Place but that's the only extra.

AD/BC is actually quite good its got an all star cast and some okay tunes but as many people have said the jokes dry up and its not worth buying or renting as it's too short it's not really very 'nativityish' plus the main point and flaw of this piece is you can see it all on youtube for free instantly!

Pretty much what you would expect from the Merenghi and Boosh cast. Strange idea yet they pull it off. Very funny.

Fans of 'Look Around You' and 'Mighty Boosh' will appreciate the craftmanship and silliness of this faux Seventies' broadcast of a minor Rock Opera. The BBC, in 1973, cut the programme from two hours down to the half hour available here, further damaged by a legal wrangle, the original was shown on BBC 2 at Easter, skewing its Nativity theme. What survives is a mouth-swill of a taster.

The comedy is in the authenticity of its production, the accuracy of the performers delivery and the subtle Surrealism. If you don't crack, breakdown at the brilliance of AD/BC at some point, even if it's a few days later (spurting a skinny latte out through your nose), then you just don't get it - that doesn't make it rubbish, or you - you just don't get it, fair dos.

  • 28 minutes long

i just assumed this would be longer than 28 minutes so was rather dissapointed when i realised.

actually the joke runs dry after about 10 minutes so its not too depressing.

this is only for serious die hard fans of these comedians, even then its not really worth renting.

i got a few very good giggles in first 10 mins but thats it so just 2 stars from me.
