Hrishikesh Mukherjee succeeds in spinning an interesting story about the people who are involved in the film music industry. The ego clash between a successful singer and his wife from a humble background who makes it bigger than him in the same field. add a bit of male chauvinism to it. the latter half drags with the abortion and the subsequent depression and the film ends in true bollywood style where the lead pair unite by singing together in the stage. The highlight of the film is the music. Composing a melodious number which is portrayed in the film as a megahit is a difficult task, because if the song doesnt live up to the expectation, it might end up funny while it is proclaimed as a hit in the film.
Some of the soulful melodies are 'Meet na mila re mann ka' , ' tere bindiya re', 'tere mere milan ki yeh rehna' and ' piya bina'.
S.D. Burman has given his best.
Amitabh is not only star material, but he proves that he is an actor par excellence. Jayabhadhuri makes you repent for her relatively short stint in film industry. Her lip sync to the songs is a delight to watch.
If you like films with a simple story line with great music, go for it.
