ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, quite possibly the best British comedy series since MONTY PYTHON or, at least, THE YOUNG ONES, centers on the exploits of Edina (Jennifer Saunders) and Patsy (Joanna Lumley), two middle-aged women trying to relive the glory of their youth. The catch here is that these two women unabashedly drink (Patsy's had a stomach bypass and consumes only alcohol), take drugs, and generally walk around in a stupor while abusing Edina's earnest daughter, Saffron (Julia Sawalha), and her assistant Bubble (Jane Horrocks). Probably the best sitcom of the 1990s, AB FAB's only fault is that it lasted a mere 18 episodes. This DVD set contains the six episodes that comprised the show's first season: "Fashion," "Fat," "France," "Iso Tank," "Birthday," and "Magazine."

This is inane. Utterly and unquestionably inane.
I must admit I didn't watch it when it first came out, and so I feel no nostalgia for this age. I am not going to pick on the gaudiness of the whole thing. But Joanna Lumley what are you doing here? Her performance in '3 Sisters' is being applauded as I write. Here she is a nasal and whining bore.
Tirades apart, the fact that there isn't a single, I mean that literally, not a single joke worth it's salt in the first 3 episodes was enough to put me off this show. Completely and desparingly unfunny. Utter Horrocks.
I hadn't watched this for a long time and still found it entertaining although some of the jokes seem a bit dated now. Edina and Patsy are still very funny when they are drunk or stoned! The earlier episodes are still better than the more recent episodes and this is worth watching if you are an Ab Fab fan.
