    Burton in a compelling role.

This film is one of the stranger films that Richard Burton featured in. Brooding and creepy, this film starts slowly, but builds up to a shattering conclusion. Also features Billy Connolly in, what I believe to be, his first major film role.

Worth a punt, and interesting if you want to experience the stranger corners of British film-making.

    Don't miss this gem

If you take a film that Richard Burton chose to do at the height of his career; that launched Billy Connolly as an actor; David Bradley followed on from “Kes” and then find out that the Catholic church tried to ban and successfully stopped its release by keeping it on the shelves for eight years after its launch! You could ask yourself why you have not seen this film before..?

The film is a relatively well crafted story of a deluded victim a blinkered priest and power, revenge and deception in a confining and dark school. The sanctity of the confessional comes to the for and you can understand why the church tried to ban it! Creepy, disquieting and out of the ordinary it does not really deliver any scares, due to pretty average direction but the excellent cast and its disturbing and dark look, making a film all horror, mystery and crime fans should take a look at.

    Absolute rubbish

An hour in and not sure if I can see it through to the end. Very low rating film for such a star as Richard Burton

A little slow to start, this film turned out to be a rather chilling story. The priest played by Richard Burton, was sombre and certainly lacked empathy with his charges. Somewhat gruesome, the rules governing the sanctity of the confessional box gave cause to some profound thought. Recommended.
