Doctor Dolittle meets The Crying Game in this smash-hit comedy that made Jim Carrey an overnight sensation. The rubber-faced star plays a bumbling, Hawaiian-shirted detective hired to find the kidnapped dolphin mascot of the Miami Dolphins football team in this fast and furious farce. Your reaction to the film will largely depend on whether you find Carrey's distinctive style of extremely physical comedy — often compared to that of Jerry Lewis — stupidly hilarious or downright annoying. Likely to appeal mainly to the Wayne's World brigade, Ace Ventura is directed with anarchic energy and quirky imagination by Tom Shadyac, who also brought his magic touch to Eddie Murphy's The Nutty Professor and reteamed with Carrey for the comedy Liar Liar. Carrey's long-suffering co-stars Courteney Cox (from Friends) and Sean Young (in surely one of her most bizarre screen roles) had the good sense not to reappear in the lamentably unfunny sequel When Nature Calls.
Featuring a relentlessly mugging comedian who makes Jerry Lewis seem as restrained as Buster Keaton, this is an extraordinarily inept comedy, with feeble jokes parodying other movies, feebler slapstick and much homophobia and misogyny; it also provides Se

This film is the best, it is entertainment for everyone young and old.
One of my favourites, I laughed so much I nearly cried, and my 9 year old loves it too.
Great movie and one of Jim Carrey's finest roles to date. Ace Ventura{ Carrey} is a pet detective who must recover a kidnapped dolphin named Snowflake and pin the culprit. he joins forces with Melissa Robinson{ Friend's Courtney Cox} to rescue Dan Marino the superbowl player. he must dodge secretary Lios Einhorn and is bad mouthed by Roger Predactor{character in the flick}
MUST SEE ENTERTAINMENT FROM START TO FINISH! I LOVE THE UNDERCOVER AGENT OPENING SCENE!
jim carrey makes this movie great fun for everyone who loves mad comedy
a truly wonderful performance by the rubber face genious
the inside the pool scene doing star trek impressions had me in fits
cool

This is a great movie. The jokes although expected and a bit over the top are still funny (especially the Star Trek impersonations) and had me in stitches.
Ace is a captivating character, well played by Carey, that you can't stop watching for a moment.
The humour is a little bit dated now (or am I a little bit older?) but a great film nontheless and definately worth watching.
Great afternoon family fun.

I really liked this one as it started off with laughs from the very start.
He does seem to get on everyones nerves, but the end result is surprising.
The way he does things is really funny to say the least. I think they got the right guy to play the main character in the movie. Fantastic to watch from start to finish
The film that made me become such a massive fan of the legend that is Jim Carrey, i could sit and watch this film 100 times and still laugh.
Timeless comedy with the rubber faced genius he fails to disappoint with anything he stars in. the best comedy actor of our generation in one of the bizzare comedys ever
A Classic!!!
Must See
Brilliant comedy film with Jim Carrey overacting liked mad and being even more hilarious than ever.
Great! No other word for it, Great. Brilliant casting and a good story, a bit of exitment thrown in, that's really all I ask of a kids comedy like this. GREAT!!!
Very Little needs to be said about this. It rocks!! Classic comedy from Jim carrey, some classic lines and a brilliant film. Just as funny now as it was 10 years ago. Bring on Ace Ventura when nature calls!! I will nodoubt be renting this again in the near future!
fantastic film that launched Jim Carrey into stardom. His lunacy makes this film from the opening scene driving down the road - head out the window to jumping in an empty pool and doing the 'star trek' thing. And it has a young tidy bird in too!
A true classic comedy.
