Even though Jim Carrey has as many detractors as supporters, there's no denying his breakthrough hit Ace Ventura: Pet Detective exuded a barmy charm, but this silly sequel is often just plain irritating. For this adventure, Ace is off to Africa where he gets mixed up with warring tribes and the hunt for a rare bat. The slim plot is just the flimsiest of excuses for Carrey's wacky grimaces and elasticity, while the slapstick is relentlessly juvenile and director Steve Oedekerk's direction lacks the surreal inspiration of the original. HILARIOUS! BETTER THAN THE FIRST!

The first film 'Ace Ventura Pet Detective' was really funny. this is hilarious on every level. the first is excellent but this is even better. basically, Ace Ventura { Carrey} is a pet detective who seeks solitude in a buddhist temple after the death of a racoon{ a very clever sketch on ' Cliffhanger'} then is brought out of retirement by an English traveller named Filton Greenwall who takes him to Africa. his mission? to retrieve a sacred white bat named Shakaka to the Wachati tribe to prevent them from war with the Wachotoo tribe who will definately kill them. pefect on every level.
