I really enjoyed this DVD. It begins with some very fundamental points, but tackles them quickly and economically before giving five or six example instrumentals with explanations. Although renting this title denies the viewer the use of the booklet, the explanations are so clear and thorough that it is easy to manage without it. There is a good range of styles and a lot of background information about other players to explore. It is however quite short and relatively low on content compared to some instructional videos that I have seen; but is nevertheless an excellent introduction and exploration of the fingerstyle tradition of blues guitar. I would recommend this title to players of all ability, or even just to anyone interested in fingerstyle blues.
Mel Reeves presents an excellent tutor and is only slightly annoying with his posey backlit set surrounded by guitars and his constant turning from one camera to another so he looks like a newsreader. Why?!
There is plenty for beginners and intermediate guitarists, ans he has an excellent way of demonstrating that some pretty flashy sounding riffs aren't all that difficult when you know how.
The only failing is the lack of a booklet, and there is no excuse for this - I have rented other dvd's where the tablature is included on the disc as a pdf file so it can be saved and printed off.
Highly recommended, except that there is enough material to last for ages so you have to buy it anyway!
