It's hard to swallow Dennis Hopper as a shy, pipe-smoking teacher, married (unhappily) to Amy Irving, who lives on a farm with his sick mother (Julie Harris). The plot doesn't get any more credible when his character gets a new lease of life through an affair with a student (Amy Locane). Because of a childhood accident, Hopper lurches around with a limp, though that's nothing compared to Ed Jones's script.
I disagree with the Radio Times - Dennis Hopper is convincing as Amy Locane's (who is pretty edible by the way) limping teacher - tho he doesn't stay limp for long! Its beautifully photographed and although its a minor tale its nicely done.
