    dismal

I shouldn't really be writing anything about this dire excuse for a film, since I didn't get past 20 minutes into it (and even that was a struggle).

But, Jesus Christ! when Americans try to be clever and camp and funny, it's amazing how thoroughly and conclusively they can miss every single mark.

Absolutely the only thing that can be said in this atrocious film's favour is that it PROBABLY isn't as horrendous an abortion as '200 American', perhaps the worst film ever made, gay or otherwise. But that's still not saying much.

At best, one can feel embarrassed on behalf of those unfortunate creatures involved in this unspeakable dross. Nothing more. Avoid like the plague.

a love story for all the family

You must see this film. It’s a modern day love story for all the (grown-up) family.

Probably the best scene is cut (but is included in the 'extras' bit on the DVD).

Adam is a Goth in the mid-1980s and happens upon a nightclub playing disco. He is horrified, as is his fat female friend… but then Steve is the lead act in a disco dance troupe. And their eyes meet over the dance floor and love finds a way. Sadly Steve is a junky and having eaten excess chocolate before the show a messy episode occurs on their first date.

Flashing forward 17 years and you are in post 9/11 New York where Adam is still on the shelf looking for that perfect number one man to complete his life. Meanwhile Dr Steve gets through two men a week at the gay gym where he has membership… both are desperately lonely and meet again by chance when Adam nearly kills his dog.

Both partners fail to recognise each other from the failed encounter a decade and a half earlier.

The relationship forms and you follow their lives. Best scenes include a homophobic neighbour who shouts abuse when Steve’s parents visit “God made Adam & Eve… not Adam & Steve”. Adam’s accident-prone Jewish parents and sister are just hilarious… check out Adam’s mum – she is the dotty air-stewardess from the 1980’s Airplane series.

The fat friend becomes a stand up comic whose one-gag show revolves around her obese weight – but now that she has lost the fat, the comic genius is lost (except that she laughs at her own humour). There is one crazy line where a man heckles – your jokes are as funny as a heart-attack. She replies, “Oh thanks Dad” – this is so stupid, but I collapsed in a roar of laughter and had to stop the DVD to visit the toilet as I feared I would wet myself [okay, I need help!]

One of the scenes cut from the final movie is a sexual encounter between Adam and a mime act – this is so funny, my friends and I were crying tears as we replayed it the third time!

A perfect movie to laugh at with friends, a few bottles of wine and some take-away pizza.

PS: this is a low-budget movie… indeed Adam the key actor, is also the Director of the movie – which makes you truly appreciate his talent.

Ignore The Previous Bad Comment !!!!

This is a really great comedy and is extremely funny.

How on earth someone can give a review after switching it off after 20 minutes escapes me.

This film was produced by the same people who made 'Latter Days', an even better movie.

    Interestingly Gay

Loved the film.. funny view of my life in the 80's. Interesting satire. Wouldn't buy it or rent it again. But I like the way the story slowly worked its way through and some very funny camp dance bits. Was not predictable as it kept changing... yes enjoyed it

    Another gay love story

It was a bit cheesy, but made me smile. Nothing says gay love story like a fag, his hag, the Dolly tranny and a 2 Step dance off!

    a curates egg

The plot must have looked like a good idea for a gay ROMCOM on paper, unfortunately wooden acting and pedestrian direction sink the idea. Having the lead characters play themselves aged 20 & 37 was never going to work, especially when they are the latter age. Like the curates egg it’s good in parts, but unfortunately not in enough parts to make it a film worth recommending

    Brilliant film!

I loved every minute of this film: very funny, very gay and very American (full of ROMCOM cliches).
