(5)An original take on the post 9-11, Iraq and Afghani

war era. The director uses the metaphor of family relationships to illustrate the reasons for and prejudice against terrorism in our current age. The script, acting and soundtrack are sensitively put together, and there's some nice cinematography. The story is about a teenage lad who has lost both his parents in a car crash some ten years previously. He is of mixed Muslim and American Christian heritage. His maternal grandfather is a cantankerous, racist and his personality is cleverly used to depict Uncle Sam's dominance over the rest of the world. The story focuses on a drama project the teenager becomes involved with at school, and his relationship with his drama teacher. It is difficult to say more without spoiling the film. Whilst the film is a comment on post 9-11 society, it is also the story of one boy's grief and his attempt to 'let go', following the death of his parents. Sensitive, clever and nicely shot, its worth a watch. If you are after action films with male heroes then this is not for you. I gave it four out of five stars.- Was this review helpful to you?
