This is a good documentary from the South Bank Show covering how the Cuban all stars / buena vista social club first came to prominence. Forget the nonsense about Ry Cooder discovering them, thats just lazy media reporting. These musicians are the genuine article and well reflected in the performances on this DVD. The documentary is informative and personal. The additional concert from Compay Segundo on the DVD at Olympia Paris is also a treat. There's a great atmosphere that builds gently to a fun climax to the performance. Sadly we have now lost Compay but if it was not for their careers reawakening in recent years so many of us would not have been able to enjoy their music at all.
