Afro Samurai - Resurrection

Afro Samurai (Samuel L. Jackson) avenged his father and found a life of peace. But the legendary master is forced back into the game by a beautiful and deadly woman from his past. The sparks of violence dropped along Afro’s bloody path now burn out of control – and nowhere are the flames of hatred more intense than in the eyes of Sio (Lucy Liu). She won’t quit until Afro is schooled in the brutal lessons he dealt those who stood in his way. There’s no such thing as final vengeance. The cycle of bloodshed spinning around the Number One Headband must roll on.

    headband needed!

I loved the original series - it blew me away with its classy dialogue, awesome custom-made soundtrack and ultra violence. This isn't as good but should still get fans of the original excited by its mere existence.

It's important to note that this is a single movie-length animation rather than a series of short episodes like its predecessor.

Plot? set a few years after the end of the 1st series, afro has let himself go slightly and is beaten early doors in an act of revenge (not very subtle irony, i know) so now he has to regain the number 2 headband to challenge again for the all powerful(?) number 1. to reveal more would probably include a spoiler so i'll stop there but suffice to say there are some familiar characters, decent levels of violence/swearing and a pleasing overall feel to this installment of a really enjoyable franchise.

IMPORTANT:- although you COULD treat this as a standalone picture, you'll find it much easier to follow and more satisfying if you see the original series 1st.
