Or you can rent each disc individually:
I rented this because of the other reviews. I can only assume they were watching something else.
I watched 1 and a half episodes then decided to spend the rest of my commute staring out of the window rather than watch any more.
Formulaic scenario (cynical academic meets genuine medium and has his beliefs challenged whilst helping her in a range of 'cases', oh and suprise surprise he has a recently deceased relative to make him want to believe), dull acting, frankly ridiculous dialogue ('oh, such a strong smell of lavender!').
Rent the 4400 if you want some real drama. In fact, you could try Finding Nemo for more suspense than this waste of a postal envelope. It only gets 1 star because 0 isn't an option.
This show has impact and is at times quite emotionally challenging. It's not always scary but some of the scenes (mother and father comitting suicide and trying to take children with them, shots of child who survived screaming and bashing at the windows of a fume-filled car, her family dead around her, tears running down her face...) were very disturbing to me and had to be fast forwarded. Not for anyone who truly believes in 'The Other Side' or who is particularly nervous about this kind of thing. Quite a lot of sleuthing, which I would like to see more of, as the psychic, Alison, whom Robert, the university lecturer, is researching, becomes his paranormal side-kick. More meat is added to the plot by Robert's little son who died young. He is haunting Alison, to try and get in contact with his grieving father, but Robert refuses to believe....The series ends on a slight cliff-hanger, leaving the possibility of a second series if the first is well-recieved.
Director's comments on the very last episode are revealing and interesting (the first time I've really paid attention to this feature of a DVD).
Try it!
