    [Highly rated reviewer]

Afterwards was a interesting story well told, but suffered from very slow direction.

John Malkovich was excellent as the creepy prophet of doom but some of the lines were mumbled both by him and other cast members which made it slightly annoying at times trying to workout what they said or its relevance to the story.

All in all it was a decent supernatural type film with enough twists and turns to keep me interested but it would've benefited from some editing to tighten up things and get more motion into the plot.

Very annoyed that this film was classed as a supernatural 'thriller' with a poster of Evangeline Lilly and John Malkovich holding a gun. First of all there was nothing thrilling about the bad acting from the lead guy - the French accent was totally irrelevant to the plot and distracting for most of the film. There was also nothing thrilling about a story line which promised so much and delivered so little, or in John Malkovich's creepy character who is pictured with a gun in the film poster but does not handle any weapon at all during the entire film!!! And lastly Evangeline had about 20 lines in total - nowhere near enough to warrant the misleading poster which (having watched the film rightly so) misses out the lead character. After watching the film I was left with the feeling of being somewhat deceived - it doesn't raise anything new or interesting about the after life, and it certainly doesn't make you want to go and do good and make amends while you still can. A bit of a pointless film really - it's like Scrooge...except gone wrong.

  • File Under Boring

This is like an hour long advert for care in the community. Boring.

It does swing from one premise to another which is intriguing, but you have to stay awake to figure it out which isn't easy especially with the hypnotic murmurings of the lead actor who continually reinforces the notion that it is in fact you that will die shortly of boredom.

This is definitely not a thriller, and drama would infer some sort of dramatic element in the plot, but its not quite as bland as melodrama.

I think maybe its just me, but if I were about to die I don't think I'd like the patronizing soft tones from the lead actor, id prefer something I would be better not referring to in this review, but it would involve taking down my trousers a lot.

Really. Watch this only if you want to fall asleep. Or maybe pass on to the next world.

A total waste of my time watching this! I knew half way though that this movie sucked but as I'm a glutton for punishment I thought I'd stick it out as I was hoping for a spectacular finish. Hoping is not getting and this film is truly awful.

portentous twaddle, woefully miscast. malkovich and duris should have known better. despite a possibly interesting start the film trails off into cod-philosphical musings over death and the meaning of life, interspersed with pretty decor shots and flashbacks of tasteful family life in sylvan forest glades. like late, bad bergman without the humour. or wit. or depth.
