Agent Cody Banks

Cody Banks (Frankie "MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE" Muniz) is a teenage CIA agent. Undercover at a prep school where he pretends to be a typical student, Cody must seek out classmate Natalie Connors (Hilary "LIZZIE MCGUIRE" Duff), whose Dad is a scientist involved in some dangerous business. Equipped with top-end spy gadgetry and excellent training, Cody prepares to take down his adversary. The only problem is, Cody doesn't know how to talk to girls!
With nods to other spy films this fast-paced action-packed cool ride of a movie also features perhaps the best skateboard chase ever.

Take the traditional plotline and gadgets of a James Bond movie, add a teen heart-throb from American TV, throw in some cheeky laughs and you've got a tasty recipe for a boisterous and enjoyable family romp. More reality-based and character driven than its closest equivalent, the SPYkids franchise, this action-packed tale focuses on Malcolm in the Middle's Frankie Muniz, here playing a high-school student who's also an undercover CIA agent. Grabbing the attention from the outset with a dramatic skateboard chase involving a runaway car, the film continues to pick up pace as Muniz gets his first assignment — to befriend class cutie Hilary Duff and spy on her scientist father (Martin Donovan). Though some of the story elements are a little hard to swallow (particularly Lovejoy's Ian McShane as a psychotic villain), there's enough humour and excitement to carry the picture.

  • Given that the Bond films are aimed at a teen audience, is there room for a teenage version? It may appeal to ten-year-olds, if they've tired of the better Spy Kids movies.

Review from daughter (8) - excellent, she fell for Cody Banks completely and insisted on wearing sunglasses for the rest of the day!

Son (5) was also mesmerised for the last half an hour. Good kids film - if they like Spy Kids, this is a less complicated version!

I really thought this might be a bit poor, and for kids, but it wasnt it was in fact really amusing, and quite well thought out.

The children really enjoyed it too, great extras on the dvd, including outtakes, can't wait for the sequal.
