Take the traditional plotline and gadgets of a James Bond movie, add a teen heart-throb from American TV, throw in some cheeky laughs and you've got a tasty recipe for a boisterous and enjoyable family romp. More reality-based and character driven than its closest equivalent, the SPYkids franchise, this action-packed tale focuses on Malcolm in the Middle's Frankie Muniz, here playing a high-school student who's also an undercover CIA agent. Grabbing the attention from the outset with a dramatic skateboard chase involving a runaway car, the film continues to pick up pace as Muniz gets his first assignment — to befriend class cutie Hilary Duff and spy on her scientist father (Martin Donovan). Though some of the story elements are a little hard to swallow (particularly Lovejoy's Ian McShane as a psychotic villain), there's enough humour and excitement to carry the picture.
Given that the Bond films are aimed at a teen audience, is there room for a teenage version? It may appeal to ten-year-olds, if they've tired of the better Spy Kids movies.
This likeable, if unexceptional, gadget-filled Spy Kids clone sees the talented Muniz (17) still perilously straddling... read more on Time Out
Review from daughter (8) - excellent, she fell for Cody Banks completely and insisted on wearing sunglasses for the rest of the day!
Son (5) was also mesmerised for the last half an hour. Good kids film - if they like Spy Kids, this is a less complicated version!
Rated as a 12, this film is most definitly aimed at that audience. After all, who as a kid never dreamed of being a secret agent?
Not really suitable for the more intellectual viewers as the plot is hardly meaty in it's very linear progression.
All in all an easy and fun viewing experience for all members of the family.
It is better than I'd expected. Frankie Muniz (playing Cody) is always a darling to watch. The film has got really good stunts, alot of which is done by Frankie himself. The plot was better than I'd expected too. I thought after the "Spy Kids series", (plus when the poster/cover is not that exceptional) "Agent Cody Banks" is going to be 'just another' teen spy movie. But no. The plot is original, not particularly exceptional, but it is still quite good and kept you interested. Although I must say, Hillary Duff (playing Cody's girlfriend)'s acting in this movie is not that great. The make-up artist put too much make up on her, especially on the party seen. Doens't make her look trendy and fasionable, it makes her look like she doesn't know when to stop. And no offense to her or anything, her acting in this one is just the same as anyother movie she's done, e.g. "Lizzie Mcquire", and "Casper and Wendy", though she does have her own charms, it doens't hurt to stop acting like the same person in every single of her movie. That being said, she's still one of my favourite teen actresses.
What can I say about this film?....well if you are looking for an entertaining no-brainer then this is it! Fast cars, attractive women, gadgets and a ridiculously camp villian its got it all with a little spoof thrown in.
If you like Malcolm in the Middle then you will like this though after a while you will want to slap his love interest for being annoying!
Fun but nothing to set it apart from other spy spoofs.
nice movie, family type, i think it was better than Mission Impossible actually!!, quality film...but like i say, not as serious as James bond, more of the family type. Enjoy

One minute you think Cody Banks is just an average, shy 15 year old boy, and the next you realise that he's rather better than average at dealing with a crisis.

But when CIA-trained Cody is presented with his first mission, it's the one thing he's not prepared for: he's got to chat up a girl, so as to find out exactly what her scientist father is up to with the Baddies (so obviously caricatured that even my 5 year old immediately identified them as Baddies).

12-rated films are always a bit tricky, I find. Yes, this film would not be suitable for lots of very young children, given that a mountain blows up and there is a smattering of innuendo. But the language is very restrained - the Harry Potter films have more bad language in them than this - and the violence is minimal. As we always discuss programmes, we watched this one together quite happily, though I would not want them to watch it on their own (at least not for a first viewing).

I would say this film would probably be comprehensible and fun for most averagely-aware 8 year olds. If they liked Spy Kids, they would like this. For me, there was far more in this one for an adult to enjoy.
Get a big pot, throw in a good helping of James Bond, add a dash of "Back to The Future" and a light dusting of "Wallace & Gromit" and you've got this film. Two adults and two children watched this and we all enjoyed it. Completely unbelievable but that's what films for the family are all about. If you are into family film nights then definitely get this one out. Very enjoyable!
This is James Bond for kids - or Spy Kids for teenagers! If you enjoy spy movies & love cool gadgets, then this fun fare will be right up your street.
Perfect length - 90 minutes, pretty generic narrative and structure, this doesn't break the mold in any way; rather it just hugs it and makes you smile along the way!
This is a good family 'spy spoof' movie. I am not over enthusiastic, myself, with it but can see a great attraction for young teens. It is well made but predictable revolving around a teenage CIA agent. The storyline is nothing special.
Overall a good movie...............
A Junior James Bond................same sort of plot a few good stunts and he has a Co-star to die for................
The movie has a 12 rating but to be honest there wasn` t really anything in the movie that I thought would be of concern to youngerkids. No bad language, no sexual overtones etc, perhaps the odd explosion. My younger son (6) didn`t really say much buy my daughter (8) liked it a lot more.......as a lot more of her type of humour..................
A good movie for the kids if 8-9 or older and not a bad watch if the parents sit with them as well.
I really thought this might be a bit poor, and for kids, but it wasnt it was in fact really amusing, and quite well thought out.
The children really enjoyed it too, great extras on the dvd, including outtakes, can't wait for the sequal.
