    [Highly rated reviewer]

Be careful if you order Akira as it comes in two DVDs with the same feature on it. If you want to watch the digitally remastered version there is no point in ordering the original feature as well.

This is the first Manga film I've ever watched, using it as a test to see if I should watch others. The film looks amazing but its a pretty poor story that ends with a big bubbly baby. Poor.

Overall I loved the feel of this film, was very happy with it on Blu-Ray. The English dubbed version is provided so be warned if you do not want this.

  • Superb graphics for a 1988 anime, but I don't like the story.

The realisation is really stunning for an anime that was made in 1988. Graphics are sharp and animations are smooth, which is exceptional compared to the standard of that time.

Now I simply don't like the story. I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy it.

So 5 stars for image quality, 1 for the story. Overall 2 for the impression I wasted 2 hours to watch what was supposed to be a landmark anime.

  • Blu-ray not the streamline release :|

Would of got 5 stars if only the blu-ray version of this classic was the original streamline release that was available on VHS in the UK.

If you want to watch the Japanese dub then you are fine but the English dub is very poor, not just the voice actors are different but the dialogue too.

I've seen this film many times to notice the difference.

Stars are for the film but why can't this be streamed online? Far too few films are available online here. As a new customer it's disappointing.
