The script is true to the spirit of the novels (by Arturo Perez_Reverte) if not always to the letter. It's good to see a truly epic non-English language film.

Viggo M.'s Spanish is very good despite the slight accent and he seems to have fully understood and embraced the anti-heroe in Alatriste.

The whole movie is beautifully filmed and the light or, more often than not, the shadows provide an atmosphere fitting the Spanish 'golden-age' in all its misery and splendor.

The cast is generally excellent but I must disagree with having a woman for the part of 'Torquemada' (head of the Spanish Inquisition at the time).

I can't wait to see this film again and for the English-subtitled version to be available so I can show it to my non-Spanish speaking friends.
