Such a disappointment for me

Somehow the circumstance that this film of 1938 was a remake of Pépé le Moko starring Jean Gabin (1937) had entirely escaped me when I decided to rent the film. I couldn't watch Algiers right through because the scenes were so familiar to me from seeing 'Pepe' . And, quite honestly, Charles Boyer, with all his skills, could never improve on Gabin. And the familiarity of the plot made it too tedious for me.
