A promising idea and a dynamic performance from Steve Martin aren't enough to distract from this film's paucity of genuinely funny moments and a lazy over-reliance on half-baked resolutions. As the lawyer whose body is taken over by the soul of deceased millionairess Lily Tomlin, Martin has never been so effective, combining his trademark exasperation with some amazingly energetic slapstick. Tomlin makes the most of appearing almost exclusively in reflection and Richard Libertini is hilarious as a quack swami. But Victoria Tennant hams shamelessly, while director Carl Reiner (a regular Martin collaborator) cracks almost every gag with a mallet. Pity.

  • "Some things have to be seen to be believed, and the sensational teamwork of Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin is one of them. If this...doesn't have you in stiches, check your vital signs..."

    Funny slapstick comedy

Steve martin in one of his funniest offerings from the 80's, basic plot is Steve Martin is a Lawyer and he takes on the case of a very rich women who is about to die. This nasty rich lady plans to give all her money to an employee and then take over her body by transferring souls. Needless to say this goes wrong as he actually inherits half of Steve Martins body.

The first ten minutes when this happens may be some of the funniest cinema monmets ever filmed as they both argue as Steve martin battles with her trying to walk up the street.

If you enjoyed the man with two brains then you will like this, the only weak link i feel is the acting of the supporting member (The woman who is trapped in martins body) she is very wooden throughout.

This does not ruin the movie however and there are many laughs to be found through out.

    Quote of the film

'Look lady if you don't get out Mr Fireman He is Gonna '''' all over your half of my body!!!'
