A promising idea and a dynamic performance from Steve Martin aren't enough to distract from this film's paucity of genuinely funny moments and a lazy over-reliance on half-baked resolutions. As the lawyer whose body is taken over by the soul of deceased millionairess Lily Tomlin, Martin has never been so effective, combining his trademark exasperation with some amazingly energetic slapstick. Tomlin makes the most of appearing almost exclusively in reflection and Richard Libertini is hilarious as a quack swami. But Victoria Tennant hams shamelessly, while director Carl Reiner (a regular Martin collaborator) cracks almost every gag with a mallet. Pity.
"Some things have to be seen to be believed, and the sensational teamwork of Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin is one of them. If this...doesn't have you in stiches, check your vital signs..."

Steve martin in one of his funniest offerings from the 80's, basic plot is Steve Martin is a Lawyer and he takes on the case of a very rich women who is about to die. This nasty rich lady plans to give all her money to an employee and then take over her body by transferring souls. Needless to say this goes wrong as he actually inherits half of Steve Martins body.
The first ten minutes when this happens may be some of the funniest cinema monmets ever filmed as they both argue as Steve martin battles with her trying to walk up the street.
If you enjoyed the man with two brains then you will like this, the only weak link i feel is the acting of the supporting member (The woman who is trapped in martins body) she is very wooden throughout.
This does not ruin the movie however and there are many laughs to be found through out.
Quote of the film
'Look lady if you don't get out Mr Fireman He is Gonna '''' all over your half of my body!!!'
Well worthwhile for a pleasant amusing evening. Good Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin stuff.
I remember watching this as a kid, but I don't remember half of the jokes, as they were a little over my head. But watching it again brought back memories of a simpler time in comedy. Some of the jokes may be a little Un-PC but it stillcarries it off in a typical Steve Martin/Lily Tomlin way. Best watched drunk!
If you ain't see this then put it in your queue right now. A tad OTT, however, I think that is down to the 'Power 80s' filmakers. Some very funny one liners. Enjoy.

have seen this several times before, but not for a while. Definately one of Steve Martin's best performances. Only thing that lets it down is Victoria Tennants lack of acting ability!!
I did like this film. It was whacky and made me laugh. It is dominated by Steve Martin, which is a good thing, I think.
Some of the scenes are so childishly funny that it made me feel like I was back to my younger days, laughing at silliness as opposed to all the grown up forms of black humour and irony.
Watch it if you want an old fashioned laugh.
If you like see no evil hear no evil, that kind of humour. You`ll love this. Steve Martin at his best

i watched this film a good few years ago i did enjoy it but it was'nt as good as i remembered.
Steve Martin at his best. romantic very funny comedy, well worth renting for easy watching. i lived this film.
One of those Steve Martin offerings that will make you chuckle! Rich lady, who's battled with terminal illness (all her life!) wishes to migrate her soul into a beautiful friend on her death with the help of her guru. Her wills & probate lawyer(played by Steve Martin) thinks she's a bit wacko but goes along with it to improve his career prospects. Problem is, he gets more than he bargained for! A personal fav of mine as it has slapstick and outlandish storyline. Worth a viewing!
