    [Highly rated reviewer]

This film is excellently acted and although Hoffman and Redford are top billed, they are surrounded by a magnificent supporting cast.

The story is reasonably complex and there's a lot of names to remember, but the story being told here is interesting both for its historical context and the corporate / political corruption which have once again become relevant.

The majority of this film takes place indoors, and thus cinematography takes a back seat to the excellent pacing, which keeps the story moving along at an interesting pace throughout.

This film is highly recommended if you like either of Hoffman or Redford or if you are in any way interested in political / conspiratorial drama.

  • Well written and performed political drama

Film about the Washington Post uncovering the Watergate scandal in the run-up to the 1972 Presidential Elections. Well written and performed political drama with Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman pulling out all the stops to get their story and great support from Jason Robards. Even though I knew the details and outcome it’s still a riveting watch on how they weed out the truth amongst all the corruption and deceit.

A truly great film. A perfect example of true star quality from actors, director and screenwriters. It's an all talk movie about two journalists trying to get to the bottom of a story and that's it. How is it possible to keep you on the edge of your seat for 1. 5 hours with that? I don't know and Hollywood forgot how to do it a long time ago too. This a tense, fascinating, proper, well made, intelligent movie about true investigative journalism. Watch it, enjoy it and love it. A true classic that has never and will never be equaled.

Some things never change. The best bits are when the witnesses are persuaded to speak out, despite being afraid and loyal to their party.

Well worth the time spent watching it! Hoffman and Redford are just unbelievable and very credible in their respective roles. The tension builts up throughout the movie and one wonders what the outcome will be. The danger is all around and Deep Throat keeps the mystery moving. One can ask the question 'What's next?' as the story unfolds.

  • We are where we are .. and this is why

Its taken me all this time (2012) to catch up with this film .. but there is no shame in at last seeing a masterpiece. I was late to Citizen Kane and Blade runner too! This is a masterful film which tells the appalling story of the Watergate saga. Now a legend, then a scarce to be believed story of venal political vileness; it warped all belief in the political class for decades to come. We are where we are.

Need hardly be said, fantastic lead acting wonderfully supported.
