Although there was a steady decline in the quality of 'Ally McBeal' over the years, the final three episodes offer some sort of reminder of what it used to bring to the T.V, which (at the time) nothing else did. Although there is no definite 'happy' ending, these final moments do bring together the past nicely, and you feel as though the time was ready to say goodbye to the show.

  • Too Much Change ... And Too Quickly

    Rated - 2.5 stars

I've only watched the first few episodes of series 5, so my review is based on this ... This series has dropped a couple of regulars without explanation and introduced 4 new ones. The early episodes primarily feature 3 of the newbies & Ally, with many of the established characters largely sidelined to a point that it almost feels like a spin-off series. Appreciate that characters will come & go and change is inevitable. But this has made the mistake of introducing too much change too quickly, and I didn't find the inclusion of Dame Edna in 2 episodes amusing but rather irritating. Will no doubt watch the rest of the series at some point but am in no hurry!

  • Genuinely sad when this came to an end

Although I caught up with Ally McBeal about 10 years late, I've really enjoyed watching the 5 seasons in sequence in recent months. The characters are larger than life but all lovable. The series is so well written by David E. Kelly and I was sad to get to the end of the final episode and hear 'You stinker!' for the last time...

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHide

This is where, for me, Ally McBeal starts changing. New people, a new therapist and even the storylines are different. I notice that Renee is no longer in the series, which is a real shame.

  • Very Different To Series 1-4

Series 5 of Ally sees virtually nothing of Ling, nothing at all of Renee or Georgia, and towards the end, less of Ally and especially John Cage.

What it does however, is focus more on Richard Fish and bring down his emotional barriers, removing the chauvinistic side slowly and revealing a guy who is just as sensitive as he is good at running a business.

There's some great new characters as in Glen and Jenny, and a great situation that arises from the first 6 episodes. Raymond makes an excellent chauvinist, Nelle is brought back down to earth.

Im not too sure if the inclusion of Dame Edna Everage taints and ridicules the last series, but at least he/she gets some fantastic lines...in fact probably gets the best script of all.

Less court cases, and more focused on the characters themselves.

The last episode is simply excellent and brought together an amazing series that was just starting to lose its way.

  • The end of the road... :(

This season had only about half of the original cast, replacing those who had left with new characters who were difficult to warm towards, given they only had a few episodes to sell themselves! However, I LOVE the whole series and am very sad to see it all end. I will miss them all!!! :(
