This was surprisingly good. It does lack somewhat in depth but I suppose target audience does apply. Willis does a good job acting against type and shock horror ole timberhead is pretty good, though there might be a arguement he was playing himself in most scenes!
It's not always the case that when a music star puts down his microphone and tries there hand at acting he of she is any good.
In recent years Eminem and Will Smith has succeeded where the likes of Avril Lavine has failed miserably. Justin Timberlake has no problem at all and is in fact a natural in front of camera.
Alpha Dog is based on the real-life case of Californian teenager Nicholas Markowitz, who was kidnapped by a gang of teenagers, led by Jesse James Hollywood, in 2000 over his half-brother's bad drug debt. What started out as a semi-prank - a piece of macho bravado - eventually went horribly wrong leading to murder charges and a court case that (at the time of the film's release in 2007) is still ongoing.
Although Timberlake is the best thing about this film there are some other fine performance. Notably from the brilliant Ben foster and Anton Yelchin .
The story is an interesting one but you cant help feel that it was too big for the director . The ending feels wrong and rushed and there are to many questions
left unanswered , like what happened to Ben Fosters character , Jake? He was the pivotal player in the film yet he disappeared without trace after an hour .
Also why did Sharon stone have to dress up in a terrible fat suit? There was no need for it and she looked ridiculous. Sharon Stone does not normally need props to look bad she makes a good job of that herself normally with her acting. That scene should have been cut.
Despite these criticisms , Alpha Dog is entertaining and is well worth a look at.

A murderous desperado called Jesse James Hollywood? To say that life imitates art doesn't begin to do it justice. Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2006, Nick Cassavetes' true crime drama Alpha Dog was immediately overtaken by events in March, when Hollywood was finally apprehended after months on the lam, and his defense attorney moved to block the release - a motion dismissed by the court in December. In the interim, Cassavetes (The Notebook) has taken the opportunity to... Read more
