Magical Stuff
By keefy from Tyne and Wear , 05 Jan 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Anyone wanting an accurate historical account of the life of Mozart please look away now! What we have instead is a screenplay version of Peter Shaeffer's stage piece which exaggerates, for dramtic effect, the rivalry between Mozart and the less gifted but powerful court composer, Antonio Salieri. However, what this movie lacks in historical accuracy it gains in the superb performances of Tom Hulce as the boy genius and F.Murray Abraham in his career defining, oscar winning role. The movie is a sheer joy from start to finish and you won't fail to get drawn into wonderful period feeling of eighteenth century Vienna (even though most of the shooting is actually Prague!). Don't worry if you don't like classical music too much as the story is a more than strong enough experience to stand as a great drama on it's own. However, if you do like Mozarts music then the whole experience is lifted to another level with the excellect contribution of Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St.Martin in the Fields. All in all superb, thoughtful, entertainment.- Was this review helpful to you?

Perfect Film.
By gabrielc12 (17 reviews) , 02 Jul 2012A perfect film.
Looks great. Sounds Magnificent. Every performance is great, and F. Murray Abraham's is monumental. The script is funny, moving, sad, poetic.
For my part - my favourite film ever.
Please watch it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Great film backed up by incredible music
By Bassman71 (617 reviews) from Didsbury, England , 01 Jun 2012Milos Formans epic film depicting the life and times of musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and all his quirks and demons.
A superb cast helps it with outstanding performances from F. Murray Abraham as the scheming Salieri and Tom Hulce as the child-like yet brilliant Mozart as well as a good supporting cast including a very young Cynthia Nixon.
The locations and sets are spectacular really giving you a feel for the period and of course theres the music which is worth 5 stars alone and is used excellently to set the mood of the scenes.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good watch, just not one to trust
By a customer , 31 Mar 2012Great film to watch and really wont disappoint. just a shame they couldn't follow more precisely the events of Mozart's life. If you are watching to get an easy detail of his life, its not for you, definitely stick to biography's and dictionaries. But if you are after a good watch, with a huge range of Mozart's music, its a must see. Very good film- Was this review helpful to you?
