    9/11 - A Date to remember

How can you do justice to the events of 9/11? This is a powerfully memorable DVD, the outcome of two photographers being in the right place at the right time, though surely they would not put it like that.

Starting in summer 2001, the brothers arrange to follow Tony, a ‘probie’ (probationary fireman) from ‘Ladder 1,’ one of New York’s fire stations, close to the World Trade Centre. They filmed footage of his progression from basic training through to the point where he’s proving himself more and more in the team, and becoming one of the ‘brothers’ in the squad. However, by September 1st, he’s still awaiting his literal ‘Baptism of Fire’: his first action in a significant emergency that will really put his training to the test. More importantly, just like a pygmy killing his first elephant, it will prove his manhood to himself and his squad. Will he prove worthy?

On September 11th, there is an early-morning callout to check a suspected gas leak. Surprisingly, the unusual sound of an approaching aircraft is heard above them in the skyscraper-filled skies...

The rest is not just recorded history, but an amazing testimony to the courage and training of the NYFD as a whole, and Ladder 1 in particular. There is death, courage and reality in a way which overrides any clichés. A worthy record of unexpected and unique events. Well worth seeing!

    Disturbing viewing

This is a must get documentary. Filmed as it happened this puts a whole new slant on the terrible attack.

You really feel like you are there. Fantastic but shocking.

    Not too good..

I had hoped that this was going to be a detailed account of how this happened with all the possible images from that fateful day, but this focuses more on the people whos life this has changed and the reactions of the crowds of people that looked on not that bad a documentary but also 'Not that good'

    Collection of short interviews

Just a rambling collection of short interviews with mainly bystanders. Watch 9/11 for an excellent documentary on this horrific event.

    Cheesy americanised bollocarbons

The usual sickenly sentimental rubbish that america churns out so often.

Rent '911 - In Plane Site' if you want to learn about 911, you won't find it here tho.

    pointless.

I learned nothing from this film-there is no information in it,it is basically shots of the people of New York saying how terrible it all is and fire engines driving past...nothing new here and far too short. How come a film like this is given a major dvd release?Of course 9/11 was terrible but it also seems to be ripe material for entertainment now, dressed up as a 'tribute',bet you the movie version will not be far behind.

    Fascinating but heavy viewing

This DVD is in typical US documentary style. It is quite heavy viewing and may actually require a second viewing. The angles at which it was filmed are quite unique and as a result some of the viewpoints are very interesting and mind blowing.
