She is a beauty by the way!By a customer from Leicester , 20 Sep 2003
[Highly rated reviewer]I've always been a fan of movies that stand out from the norm and leave the audience sitting, somewhat stunned, when the credits begin to roll. This movie fit my criteria perfectly. The acting is simply amazing, with some inspired casting, especially the remarkable Kevin Spacey. This movie might have just been put aside if any old person was thrown into each role, but the actors chosen, bring out the fascinating characters the screenwriter penned and the director envisioned.
It's a somewhat serious film, but it's also a black comedy. The more I watch it, the funnier it becomes. I eagerly anticipate the heavier, darker scenes that still put a weight on my chest. This movie may not be a winner with everyone, but if it draws your attention, it's got you caught. Enjoy.

EXCELLENT FILMBy a customer , 28 May 2011Excellent film.
I hadn't read anything on the plot, glad I didn't, not sure whether I would have watched it.
The set reminded me of desperate housewives.
This is a must see film.
Laughter and tears in this enjoyable fantasy/dramaBy Jammyhouse (132 reviews) from Wakefield , 23 Apr 2011I'm a big fan of Kevin Spacey and in this film he gets to show his acting skills to the full.
It's a comedy/drama and the two mix well, one minute I was amused and the next emotional, so, a word to the wise, have a hankie handy if you're easily emotionally moved.
Lester Burnham is trapped in a dull repetitive lifestyle and a loveless marriage. He and his daughter are worlds apart, he cannot get close to her, whilst she finds him an embarrassment when he's around when she's with friends.
He doesn't know how to escape from this monochrome existence until he flips from an introvert into a mega-extrovert. However, I mustn't reveal too much and spoil the fun, watch for yourself - you won't regret it.
A word to the wise - have a hankie handy for the odd tear of laughter or sorrow.
AMAZING film.By Skitzomultiple (114 reviews) from Earth , 22 Mar 2011This is one of my fav films. Deep and phycological. You really get into the characters minds. An amazing watch. MUST SEE.
An American BeautyBy brianw4815 (122 reviews) from United Kingdom , 01 Mar 2011A dark comedy about a man who becomes repulsed by his boring, every-day existence. Kevin Spacey is fantastic in his role - fascinating and amiable, I found myself rooting for his broken character to find some sort of redemption. The film was a four star affair until the final scene when I found myself tearing up! Very touching with plenty of twists and turns to keep you surprised until the end.
A superb slice of 'wow'!By RyanRedLion (3 reviews) from Bristol , 27 Feb 2011A beautifully made film; every shot as stunning as the next. I've wanted to watch this film for a long time now and I finally got round to it; and boy, I felt the film justified the hype.
The story is just so realistic, and characters so relatable, it's hard not to like this film. 'American Beauty' has many themes that we can relate to, such as imprisonment and redemption; and by the end of the film, you will have gotten something out of it.
I loved the recurring rose petal motif and the fantastic cast; the film definitely makes you 'look closer' and appreciate exactly what you have, and what the world has to offer. 5 stars!!!
