Mafia shenanigans in a Glasgow café — the idea is minor to the point of immaturity but has a home-grown charm enhanced by performances that always take it seriously enough to convince and make us smile. After a deal goes sour, New Jersey hoods Gino (Danny Nucci) and Settimo (Dan Hedaya) flee to Scotland to take refuge with their mild-mannered cousin, Roberto (Gerald Lepkowski), fish fryer by day and stamp collector by night. The inevitable differences between the two camps — Roberto thinks a .45 Magnum is an ice-cream; Gino makes a pass at Alice (Shirley Henderson), the hired help who's cherished in secret by his cousin — become even more pronounced when Settimo draws a gun on menacing debt collectors. Director Donald Coutts has thrown in all sorts of Mafia clichés with total disregard for momentum but there's a cheerful absurdity about it all that still keeps your attention.

Why hasn't this film been more widely distributed?

Loved this little film. The far fetched plot, the wonderful acting, the great setting tho' more could have been made of Glasgow, all of it was fabulous.

Russell Hunter gives a superb performance, the last before his death, Ms Henderson is sweet without being sugary, other members of the cast were a treat.

If you enjoy films set in Scotland, gangster films, romances and comedies, this film has the lot. Rent it.
