How you feel about a third helping of American Pie will of course depend on how the first two servings went down. For some, these adolescent sex comedies were the living proof of how popular cinema had plumbed new depths in taste. For others, who spotted the essential sweetness at the heart of the confection it was a worthy successor to the John Hughes teen-fests of the 1980s. For this supposedly ultimate slice, in which series regulars Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) attempt to tie the knot, writer Adam Herz delivers the familiar recipe of bawdy set pieces that culminate in a shamelessly upbeat and sentimental ending. Nothing new then, and as revolting and foul mouthed as ever, but this will be a reasonably satisfying final course for Pie fans everywhere.
The cast may be growing up, but the jokes remain infantile.
Perhaps a sequel too far. While the overall cuteness and adolescent sex based humour continue in the (hopefully) final film of this trilogy, there are a couple of really gross out moments, which I really didn't enjoy (Pink Flamingos did the original). I still laughed outloud at some of the humour, but this was a dissapointment after AP and AP2.
Has its moments, but not as good as the first two films. The gross-out scenes involving Stifler are the most gross yet, and I find him a complete prat anyway! But I think you're supposed to. As for the other characters, Jim is the same as ever and gets in the usual far-fetched, embarassing situations, Finch is himself and imitates Stifler to impress Michelle's sister, Michelle is now a normal girl who wants a perfect wedding (she's only goofy about twice) and I don't know why Kevin's even in this movie. Eugene Levy is great as Jim's dad, and the scenes he has with Jason Biggs are among the best in the film. Fred Willard is also good as Michelle's dad. Michelle's sister Cadence is a very wooden character. Bear, who organises the bachelor party, isn't a bad character but is essentially pointless to the story. I don't rate the token breast scene, at the bachelor party. Plenty of extras, including outtakes, deleted scenes, and two separate commentaries by director and actors. The extras give you more respect for Sean William Scott, whose ad libs are often included in the final cut.
