Have you ever had one of those days where the whole world seems to be against you and you could quite quite easily go mad to the point of ramming everyone the cuts you up on the way home ? This is for you. Excellent acting, great plot, and good camerawork make this film highly enjoyable. It'll have you in stitches and there are some very memorable scenes and quotes that you will involuntarily recall for days afterwards. A truly classic comedy horror. Now, I have to go and return some video tapes.....

  • Don't believe the hype.

I was looking forward to watching this, watched it, didn't understand the hype and regret the hour and half it took the sit through. The acting was good but the plot wasn't. There is no one in this film worth caring about. Like most cult films it is for an acquired taste, obviously not mine. Avoid!

A brilliant adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' novel, it gives an insight into the madness of a psychopath more enjoyably than I had imagined. Christian Bale is buff and gorgeous as always, and the way he portrays these two faces of a) wall street and b) serial killer is stunning. And it turns out you learn a few random pop facts along the way! But it is slightly mad, and some scenes are a bit random, but then I think that is a very subtle look at the madness of everyday life, even when juxtaposed with a serial killer! Shocks and surprises at every turn, this really did keep me hooked throughout. Do it now!

This is one of those films that you feel you ought to at least watch once. I have. The characters are all two-dimensional and the plot is rather predictable; even the end could have been slightly less predictable and we're not entirely sure how we got here. If you want a story with plot, characters worth worrying about then try Fargo or The Shining. There are some good actors here but they can only bring to the table what the script allows. Bale himself plays the lead role well enough but even for a film titled American Psycho there is little really to explain why he does this and the killings too random. This is ultimately one of those films that, whilst not very good, has established a cult following. Watch it once to say that you have and then calmly take / send it back from whence you loaned it.

  • Bateman Begins

    Rated - 2.5 stars

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw here it goes...

    Pat Bateman is a Yuppie,

he works on Wall St. for P&P.

He just wants to fit in

    and maintain his normalcy.

    Fancy suits, cigars, some scotch

    and getting pedicures.

Are just several of the boring things

    that our little Pat adores.

But deep down he has a dark side,

    it's really quite horrific.

You see our Pat............... (oh god)

    .................................(gulp)....

thinks that Phil Collins is terrific.

He likes to kill people too,

    whist making snarls and japes.

    Cos he suffers with psychosis,

and late fees for rental video tapes.

The film is quite slick in parts

and does well in building tension.

    Accompanied by strong performances

    I'll quickly give a mention.

A young Christian Bale is charismatic,

it was before he became an A-Lister.

Before he was famous for being Batman,

or the guy that punched his sister.

    Reece Witherspoon as Everlyn,

plays the self obsessed character very well.

With the inquiring pointy face of Defoe,

    you feel Bateman's living hell.

The film was just OK for me,

instead I'd recommend you read the book.

If asked 'would you rent this film again?'

My reply will be: 'Would I fu-

WOW, Christian Bale is the ultimate yuppie psycho in this film - can't believe it's taken me this long to watch this but so glad I now have.

He was cold, calculated, very fit & extrmely believable, it's incredible that just the simplest of things like a business card could set him off on his spree. Really thought he was going to do something with the nail gun - was on the edge of my seat.

    Absolutely brilliant!!
