In 1818, the family began to experience disturbances on their property. At first, slight, unexplained noises, but the spirit began to grow, becoming aggressive and singling out the father, John, and his only daughter Betsy. The family desperately searched for the cause of the spirit in the hope of finding a way of defeating it, but the spirit continued its brutal assault. It developed voices and began speaking to the family, but refusing to say why it was there. Then, finally it pronounced a death sentence on John. Within a year, he was dead. Shortly, thereafter, the spirit left the family in peace, but never the same. It would not be until years later that we would be taken back to the terrible night the spirit was born and find out the horrific truth about its nature and origin...

Worst horror film EVER!

After falling for all the hype I was astonished that a film could be this bad! I could have written a screenplay, directed and acted out a better movie. Don't waste youre time on this 'shocking' unscary excuse for 'past-it' actors to have a pay day!!

Excellent story well played. I can't understand the bad reviews . The storyline is very good and it keeps up till the end. Definetly it's worth watching

Give It A Completely Wide Berth !!!

If you are really in to good horror films, give 'An American Haunting' a completely wide berth... More like a 'made for TV movie', it will either have you bored senseless, or laughing out loud at the dreadful 'special' effects !!!

What haunting?

There doesnt appear to be a story to this film. Its just a series of scenes put together that dont make any sense. You cant tell which scenes are dreams and which are real. Very slow. Dont bother.

i love haunted and ghost films, but you've gotta be so careful as there is a fine line between ridiculous and really scary. this film I found very scary and gripping, and had an unexpected weird ending.
