An American in Paris - sights, sounds and symphony
By a customer from London, England , 09 Jul 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Though set years ago, An American in Paris, gives a great insight to Paris and its landmarks with stunning shots, great if you have never been or love the city.
Gene Kelly as ever is a great lead and the songs and dance numbers remind you of a better age. You can lose yourself to the romance and the other worldly atmosphere. A must see for Musical lovers- Was this review helpful to you?

(23)They don't make them like this anymore ...
By hmibennett (59 reviews) from Thoralby, near Leyburn (North Yorks) , 30 Apr 2012... thank goodness! Good music (but often ruined in soupy arrangements), clever dancing (but too long and repetitive) and a totally incoherent 'storyline' - it's hard to believe that Alan J Lerner could come up with both this and 'My Fair Lady'. All in all, just an excuse to film Gene Kelly and a very supple (but extrememly odd-looking) Leslie Caron. One to avoid - just listen to some decent Gershwin discs instead.- Was this review helpful to you?

Dated even for me
By Sirat (22 reviews) from London , 29 Mar 2011I like musicals and I thought I liked Gene Kelly, but only from distant memories of seeing his films on TV when I was a little boy. Seeing this one again it felt had really really dated in just about every respect, and the only fair description I think would be 'juvenile'. Musicals and musical comedies have come a long way since this was made, although not everything from that era has worn so badly. South Pacific, for example, was decades ahead of its time. But where this one is concerned I suggest you keep your fond memories and give it a miss.- Was this review helpful to you?

An American in Paris
By laneyb (256 reviews) from Rochester, Kent , 20 Aug 2010Being a big Gene Kelly fan, it is so difficult to pick a favourite of his movies. Every time I watch one, that's my favourite, his Dancing is just out of this world, he makes it all look so effortless. Put the talented Leslie Caron along side him, add the wonderful music from George Gershwin, and we have a dance to swoon to.
Of course, the Great song 'I'll Build A Stairway To Paradise' by George Guetary, just adds to the whole romantacism of Paris.
Truely a Remarkable film to see, it is one I shall watch again of that I have no doubt!- Was this review helpful to you?

American in Paris
By DouglasB (8 reviews) from Paisley , 14 Jun 2009This is more of a nostalgia experience than anything I have recently come across. The enchanting music, the rythms and the colourful dance routines make this an essential viewing for a wet Saturday afternoon. What cheer it brings to an otherwise dull day.
To use a cliche, they do not make them like they used to. Wonderful.- Was this review helpful to you?
