"...Everett effortlessly steals the show....As fresh as Wilde's delicious epigrams..." -- Rating: A-
I absolutely loved this film! With a strong cast and the very lovely Rupert Everett, it was everything a film should be - a great screen adaptation that was both witty and entertaining - I would recommend it to anyone!
terrific cant have enough of these endearing tit for tat costume comedy drama.
This movie is a terrific romp through the clever witticisms of Oscr Wilde's play. I usually don't like Minnie Driver, but she was really good in it. Everett is fab as the womanising lead and handles the light twists and turns of the movie effortlessly. Not heavy emotional stuff by far, but good fun all the same.
A good movie I love the regencey period the costumes the way of life you get washed up into this movie loving the story and the people the men were charmers and other negitive verbs and the ladies well may be on the outside but cats on the inside I really dont want to give the story away but this 1 is 1 to watch.

I think this is an excellent film; very funny and very easy to watch. The characters were well cast, especially Rupert Everett. A must for those who likes a bit of comedy, a bit of romance, a bit of "old fashioned" romantic film. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I'm not sure what I was expecting, I didn't read any of the other reviews, but while watching this my concentration just kept wandering, I certainly wasn't transfixed by it.
I guess part of the problem is that I just can't get enthusiastic about politics and a scandal set so long ago just won't be equivalent to a scandal now so I didn't get too emotional about it at all.
The acting was good, and there were certainly quite a few well known actors in there, none of which embarrassed themselves by awful acting (in my opinion).
I wouldn't rush out and watch it again, but it wasn't a complete waste of time!
Well known names in average performance.
Should have read the warning during the opening credits.. 'Funded by British Theatrical Society' (might not have got that spot on). British tosh - doesn't cut it. If you like period dramas then fine there's at least one thing going for it!
Switched off after 30 minutes.
This wasn't really my kind of movie, my mum enjoyed it. It was based on a play so it was quite an old fashioned film. It was good but didnt keep me gripped to the tv screen.
I love Oscar Wilde. The Importance of Being Earnest has been done such a lot. It's marvelous to see one of his other plays put onto film. A strong cast, and it was reasonably close to the play. I must admit I find it puzzling when Wilde has already written the play, why script writers find it necessary to tinker with it. Why not just produce the play Wilde wrote, but on film? Lovely film though - I could watch it again and again.
