    Not for the faint-hearted

Although we all know that the ancient Romans weren't always nice people, this BBC series is over the top with its shock factor. Instead of trying to concentrate on the history of the period, BBC chose to emphasize the nastiest, most perverted, sickening bits they could come up with. We, as a familiy, have an interest in the history of Ancient Rome and counted on the BBC to help fill in some gaps. That they did, with a film that made me feel physically sick. We didn't finish the first disc and certainly didn't watch the second. I would expect better from the BBC.

    Authoritative and enjoyable

This docu-drama is very well made and historically accurate. I would have liked to see more detail from the death of Julius Caesar and the following 100 years before Nero.

However, having said this, the narration is excellent and overall presenation is impressive. Compelling viewing espcially for history fans such as myself.
