There are some good individual character portrayals but there is too much self-conscious 'tally ho' spirit written in which almost tended to parody British resilience rather than express it implicitly. Despite interesting moments of incident, the plot, dialogue and occasional cod acting made for a story that ran on rather square wheels overall.
