A refreshingly un-Holywood movie. Raw, rough, tough and very realistic. Great performances, especially from the young lead and the Ma Grishom-type mother/grandmother. Really surprising sudden despatches of key characters. Recommended, although not for a cosy night in.- Was this review helpful to you?

Frechville's debut as a 17 year old thrown into the chaotic disturbing criminal underworld that his family embodies and charts his determination to survive.
Superb performances from all the cast, in particular Mendelshon, who left me feeling very uneasy everytime he was on the screen. Pearce is the 'good' cop in the film trying to save Frechville. A perfect performance from him too.
Gritty, disturbing, uneasy to watch at times but overall one of the best films of 2010. Australian cinema may have had alot to live up to but Animal Kingdom is a film that will be talked about for years to come. I recommend this to any film lover- Was this review helpful to you?

Slow burner

Yes the film starts slowly but after the first 20 minutes or so I was gripped.
It is a gritty and realistic portrayal of an Australian criminal family. Be warned there is a particularly disturbing murder scene in this movie.- Was this review helpful to you?
