    [Highly rated reviewer]

I have some sympathy with the view that you need to be in the right sort of mood for this - if you appreciated The Page Turner this might well work for you.

You do have to be ready for what is a pretty gruelling encounter with a very disturbed character (suffering I beleive from erotomania - and if you think that might be titillating, think again).

But it is wonderfully well done and I was more gripped by this than many a thriller. The ending had me pondering for quite some time - probably shouldn't say much more to avoid a spoiler - but its certainly open to a variety of interpretations.

    Isabel Carre is outstanding.

PS. If you like Au Revoir Simone there's a classic track used for the closing credits which fits beautifully.

Isabelle Carre gives a great performance. She is well cast in this role as she is able to cross the divide of being truly likeable and also sinister. Its a compact movie as the focus is on just a few characters but in doing so it maintains suspense throughout.

  • Good lazy Sunday watch

I agree with previous reviews; you have to be in the right mood to watch this. Thankfully I was. It was a great tale of a woman's descent further into obsession and madness. Simple, but engaging.

My only criticism would be that the synopsis implies more of a violent end than what was delivered. However the ending actually delivered was for more appropriate.

  • unusual film about obsession.....

Anna is attention seeking and obsessive. So she hurst herself and then falls for a doctor. The film shows the effect of this on the doctor and how Anna, who is ill behaves. Interesting.

Excellent French film. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Anna the lead character is a mad woman that needs to be locked up. A right proper bunny boiler and the queen of stalkers. I feel sorry for her but she is one hell of a nightmare.

As it's French Bunny Boiler (Lapin Bouilleuse?) one should be aware that the self abuse starts relatively early, everyone's up his or herself, and Paris looks dismal.

Isabelle Carre must've done some door kicking for her screen test as she does this in a manner that would put many a paramilitary to shame. It's worth watching just for that.

It's a shame that otherwise she's asked to be a bit of a nag as she reveals here and there that she's capable of a more rounded and sympathetic portrait had she been allowed.

Indeed it could've been a much more interesting if controversial film. For example there is a love/obsession aspect dangled but not fully explored, neither is Anna's psychology.

Also there are scenes crying out for ambiguities to be exploited and characters to be developed but clearly that was not in the manual.

When you compare this to other films in this genre (eg even what Shannon Tweed managed in A Woman Scorned) this is a missed opportunity.
