The musical that gives thousands of showbiz mums the chance to push their little darlings on the stage gets the Walt Disney treatment in this occasionally saccharine but enjoyably bumptious TV movie. Newcomer Alicia Morton plays little orphan Annie, who gradually thaws the heart of millionaire Daddy Warbucks (Victor Garber). As usual, though, it's the baddie who steals the show, and Kathy Bates is a memorable Miss Hannigan. (She received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance.) British actor Alan Cumming also scores, while Rob Marshall's zippy direction means youngsters won't get bored.

Enjoyed very much by the kids. But still does not beat the original Annie.
