Fabulous photography of the Antarctic. Planning a trip there next year and this was the perfect incentive to get on and do something about it. My only criticism is that the commentary tends to stray towards the self-indulgent. Nothing the mute button can't fix though, since the scenery needs no comment.- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)Unreal Background Score
By Ratnavali (1 review) from Birmingham , 19 Dec 2009This documentary is supported by an overzealous background score which takes the interest away from the visuals. This is a shame, as the visuals are indeed good. The background score, a total letdown...- Was this review helpful to you?

Informative, entertaining but a little short
By ThomasKus (147 reviews) from Gloucester , 17 Nov 2006If uncharted countries and real wilderness apeeal to you then you will not be disappointed by this DVD. It's only 38min long and was originally produced for IMAX so a big screen is definitely a bonus. The documentary is a mix of stunning landscapes, some wildlife including underwater scenes and a little information on the history and science that make Antarctica so interesting. I disagree with a previous reviewer about the commentary which I thought was pretty good and non-intrusive, unlike the music which was a bit dire at times but I guess that's a matter of taste. As it's a short DVD have a look at the 'Trailers' in the extras section which includes 11 trailers of the various programmes in this series. Overall a short but worthwhile DVD to rent, especially if you are contemplating a visit to this remote continent.- Was this review helpful to you?
