A surreal experience
By ninka (45 reviews) from London , 24 Jul 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
A beautifully constructed film, which at times becomes slightly self indulgent and you either love it or hate it. Gone is the Dogme '95 look which was applied in The Idiots or even in Dogville, instead we are presented with glossy HD imagery equalling thousands of beautiful stills. This film is the combination of beautiful visuals with one morbid storyline behind it. The performances are superb by both Dafoe and Gainsbourg.
Very explicit, definitely not for the squeemish.- Was this review helpful to you?

Pretty disturbing, uncomfortable, but intriguing
By ricoh (94 reviews) from Calne , 08 Jan 2013A difficult film to review in my opinion. The acting was exceptional, the images and visuals excellent, and the film built the tensions of the couples situation painfully well. Some extremely uncomfortable scenes only made the fim even more disturbing. You have to use your imagination with the plot, but i thought it was worth watching. Although some reviewers damned this film, i do believe it was an intriguing, and at times uncomfortable, watch- Was this review helpful to you?

Very Disappointing!
By a customer , 16 Dec 2012Far too 'arty' for me, this one. Didn't explain enough to create a good story line, and I found it thoroughly disappointing. And it seemed like every time the director couldn't think of anything new he threw another sex scene in for good measure! Some clever parts to the film, but not enough to make me want to recommend it to anyone.- Was this review helpful to you?

Anti antichrist
By GordonVader (99 reviews) from Emerald City, oz , 30 Oct 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
I realise I run the risk of flak from the Von Tier fan club, but this film was just awful...
Good old Lars is a bit like marmite... and although he is undeniably ( usually ) a good film maker, sometimes there is a fine line between madness and genius and I find myself wondering just how many of them Lars had when he made this spooky little porno...
Dafoe is good and well endowed, but then I really didn't need to know that and it wasn't what I wanted to see... n short this story could have been told in about 20 mins and spared me two hours of moody arthouse nonsense- Was this review helpful to you?

Right stinker!
By PSC (32 reviews) , 04 Sep 2012Do yourself a favour and avoid this film at all costs. I watched 30 minutes of this film before turning it off. It is an absolute trollop of a film that is very disgusting at times and vulgar.
Not often do I write a review as short as this but I had to warn you to avoid this at all costs.- Was this review helpful to you?
