This hugely charming and witty animated adventure is perhaps even more appealing to adults than it is to children, who are nevertheless sure to be enchanted. Woody Allen is the perfect choice for the voice of Z, an ant who feels insignificant among millions. He sets out to achieve something in his life by winning the heart of the colony's Princess Bala (sexily voiced by Sharon Stone), whom he meets when she makes an incognito visit to the worker ants' bar. Helping him in his quest for fulfilment is Weaver, a butch soldier ant voiced by Sylvester Stallone, while Gene Hackman and Christopher Walken provide the sinister tones of General Mandible and his sidekick Cutter, who are plotting dastardly things for the colony. Anne Bancroft, Jennifer Lopez and Dan Aykroyd are among the other voices in the impressive cast. Beautifully produced by DreamWorks (the company owned by Steven Spielberg, former Disney executive Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen) and with a sparkling script, Antz is not to be confused with the other enjoyable (but more juvenile) insect-themed film of 1998, A Bug's Life.
"...Its shrewd computer animators have great fun seeing the world from an ant's-eye point of view....Mr. Allen sounds wonderfully invigorated by the chance to play a guy with all those legs..."
Excellent film. This is a must see for all the family put into complete perspective by the final panning out shot
