A work of Genius

This is film making by a true master. This Movie has everything from action to drama and with an brilliant soundtrack to increase the emotion. Pacino is at his best, Quaid as usual broods, looks tired and bored and Jamie Foxx is impressive. Forget the American football, this could be any sport, the camera angles are something else and you can hear every crunch of a challenge. Watch with loads of volume, surround sound will boost the thrill.- Was this review helpful to you?

One of Pacino’s better later roles

Great casting in this with Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz and Dennis Quaid all excelling and in fact I think it’s one of Pacino’s better later roles as coach Tony D’Amato.
Nice to see plenty of appearances from ex-pros but the actual on-screen football seems a bit silly at times and the over-the-top brutality almost seems cartoon-like.
It’s quite long but there’s always something happening so doesn’t tend to drag and the stand-out moment is definitely Pacino’s speech before the Dallas game.
One thing I’m not a fan of is Oliver Stone’s use of slow-motion cut-aways which there are a lot of here and does take away tension in some of the scenes.
Various artists in the soundtrack and the Moby tracks are used very well.- Was this review helpful to you?

Long (2.5 hours) but with good acting from Pacino and Foxx
By majortom2001 (72 reviews) from Worthing, UK , 02 Mar 2013I hadn't researched this film - just hired it as Pacino is in it - so was surprised it is all about a US football team - having - can you believe it? - a difficult season???!!!??? That said Pacino is great as an aging coach trying to cope with issues on and off the pitch and the 'supporting' cast is amazing esp Jamie Foxx as a young player struggling with newly found fame, Dennis Quaid as an injured player having to face up to what maybe the end of his career(?) and Cameron Diaz as the spoilt poor little rich girl owner of the club. Plus loads of other actors who know from elsewhere including James Woods. Its an Oliver Stone film - he appears a number of times as a commentator - so this means it is a long film as Stone is unable do short films - its 2. 5 hours long. It does however build up to a good ending which I won't spoil. While it is about US football all you need to know is they need to get the ball to the other end of the pitch (like in rugby) but unlike rugby a player called a quarterback (played by Jamie Foxx) can throw the ball forward. Worth a watch but remember its 2. 5 hours long!- Was this review helpful to you?

Battle hard Shark
By Blitz52Snap (1 review) from London , 28 Nov 2012For fans of the game, fans of grid iron, fans of a movie that seems to not take its self too seriously but still packs a punch both in drama and humour. This is worth a watch.
I seriously loved this film, Pacino was brilliant as the old school coach in a new school franchise system, Lawrence Taylor was dramatic and inspiring in his performance as the battle hardened linebacker 'SHARK' (listen to his words when he speaks in the hot room) and Jamie Foxx (BIG WILLIE)did his usual as did Diazzzzzz....
Oliver stone brings it with this film, that's all she wrote on that one my friends.
What with RG3 tearing up the field this year it seems fitting that I watched this film.
Consider me a Miami Shark fan from now on.
You can do a lot worse than rent this, I think even if your not a fan of the snap you should enjoy it.- Was this review helpful to you?
