    [Highly rated reviewer]

Apollo 13 directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks is quite simply a classic film. Some of the footage was actually filmed with the actors aboard the 'vomet comet' so the actors are actually experiencing weightlessness. The film accurately depicts the story of the dramatic story of the Apollo astronauts aboard Apollo 13 including Jim Lovell. Often during the film ground control will use techno babble like 'we have a main bus undervault', Its highly unlikely that anyone will know what this means unless you work for NASA but its done in such a way that you know that this is tense and you want to know how these problems are going to get resolved. Great film which even though you know the ending will still give you goose bumps. Essential viewing.

An excellent film, which still looks brilliant despite it's age. I was really impressed with the Blu-Ray. The story is told really well, there are plenty of gripping moments in this film. A true great.

  • One of the best

Have seen this film before and enjoyed it again in BluRay. A gripping true story that had the whole world on the edge of it's seats in 1970 and overshadowed Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon for excitement. Even though you know how it ends, it's a white knuckle ride to the end. It won 9 Academy awards. Ron Howard directed brilliantly.

  • Great film

One of my favourite films of all time, so I was really looking forward to seeing it again but this time in Bluray ...film just as great as before, but Bluray quality was no where near as good as it should have been; it was however better than the DVD!

  • An age of heroes

Compelling viewing. The various tensions among the team and the crew, the human stories of those on the ground, the public's loss of interest in the Apollo mission, all of which have to be put to one side to bring about the near-impossible. Uplifting story from an age when men dared to do incredible things.

  • Moving reconstruction of real life event

Excellent recreation of what happened during the troubled Apollo 13 mission. This is warts and all, including the fact that the US public had become bored with space missions, and the major networks didn't bother to broadcast footage until it all started going horribly wrong. This is a very accurate reconstruction. If you are at all interested in space exploration, I would listen to the commentary by astronaut Lovell himself on the film. Fascinating stuff, very well brought to the screen by actors including Tom Hanks and Kevin Bacon.
