It's 2131 AD and the future of the human race hangs in the balance. Female soldier Deunan Knute has survived a major war that has pushed the earth to the brink of destruction. Located in a bombed-out urban wasteland, Deunan is transported to the Utopian city of Olympus and reunited with her former lover Briareos whose body is now half man, half cyborg. In Olympus City, half the population is made up of Bioroids, a genetically engineered species with a limited life span who are designed without unstable human emotions in order to create a peaceful society and protect the remaining members of the human race. Based on Shirow Masamune's comic.

A stunning visual achievement- it's a new milestone for CG animation
Where were you hiding - Animation has finally struck a deal with real time... but will it last? very much like the collaboration between the Bioroids and Human race in this full assault with outstanding visual distinction, fluidity of movement, engaging story, total impact action and cutting edge soundtrack.
If you liked Manga, Love this! Long awaited was the emergence of a rival to the Dons of the original Sci-Fi anime and Optimum Release has found it in this re-vamped version of the original release by leading legends Manga - created and based on Masamune Shirow's vision, but if your reading this you probably already know.
So is extinction on the table? watch and see Deunan Knute kick ass for the freedom of the Human race... betrayal of her closet beliefs thru intrigue, mystery and battling to unravel the truth all adds up to a solid movie and great climatic ending that was no less impressive than the 'Bullet-Time' style opening action within the first five minutes, although I was distracted twice as I have been finding it hard to make time to watch anything recently and found myself viewing the opening action repeatedly (recommended) before planting myself down for a full session, but when finally I got to grips I was hardcore pleased - as I now believe I had thus fully appreciated the anticipation of finally watching all the way beginning to end and I would again.
As you guessed I absolutely enjoyed every minute and will recommend this to any and all Sci-Fi movie/animation followers, hardened and green bleeding... get to the core and eat your heart out.
I've found a common complaint I have with Manga is that it's always a case of style over substance - maybe it's that the dialogue loses something in translation I'm not sure. If that were the case with Appleseed though I still couldn't complain because it looks so damn good. Other reviewers have explained the process better than I could so I'll just say it looks amazing. Fortunately though I don't have to make that decision as the story ticks along quite nicely to the epic climax. Recommended for any Manga fan.
