Where were you hiding - Animation has finally struck a deal with real time... but will it last? very much like the collaboration between the Bioroids and Human race in this full assault with outstanding visual distinction, fluidity of movement, engaging story, total impact action and cutting edge soundtrack.

If you liked Manga, Love this! Long awaited was the emergence of a rival to the Dons of the original Sci-Fi anime and Optimum Release has found it in this re-vamped version of the original release by leading legends Manga - created and based on Masamune Shirow's vision, but if your reading this you probably already know.

So is extinction on the table? watch and see Deunan Knute kick ass for the freedom of the Human race... betrayal of her closet beliefs thru intrigue, mystery and battling to unravel the truth all adds up to a solid movie and great climatic ending that was no less impressive than the 'Bullet-Time' style opening action within the first five minutes, although I was distracted twice as I have been finding it hard to make time to watch anything recently and found myself viewing the opening action repeatedly (recommended) before planting myself down for a full session, but when finally I got to grips I was hardcore pleased - as I now believe I had thus fully appreciated the anticipation of finally watching all the way beginning to end and I would again.

As you guessed I absolutely enjoyed every minute and will recommend this to any and all Sci-Fi movie/animation followers, hardened and green bleeding... get to the core and eat your heart out.

  • Do t watch this shambles of an "anime"

I hate this style of animation. The background is great but the characters are awful. They are so robotic it's like watching a poor quality computer game. I cannot believe people have giving this more than one star. This is not a high quality, well drawn anime. This is a high quality CGI background with poor quality figurines that don't show any emotion. I hate it! If this is the future of anime, I will be very disappointed! Thank God I am not the only one who hates this style, true anime artists and directors avoid this clap trap!

I am a fan of Japanese anime and I thought that this one was well executed, however there were elements where the storyline slowed but then that was just to obtain more information about the characters. I would have like to have seen more of the robotic exo-skeleton at work. I do think comparing anime with the likes of the matrix is inappropriate; anime can only be compared with other anime.

Considering the pedigree direction and the interesting concept going in, I had high hopes for Appleseed. I haven’t read any of the original Manga, so cannot comment on how closely it links, but I got a very 'Hollywood' feel from this film. It felt like there was a lot of back story skimmed over that left me with little feeling for the characters. When the twist revealing scenes arrived, I was often left confused by the characters situation rather then empathizing.

On the other hand, the animation is simply stunning. Using 3d animation and Cell Shaded colouring, the feeling of a movie standard anime is conveyed perfectly. It looks and feels big budget. Action sequences are visceral and well directed from the outset, perfectly presenting the idea of a future mecha based combat.

In short, I recommend watching for its art direction. However, the story is ground we've seen in dozens of animes and feels like a lot of important character building scenes have been cut. Fans of the original will no doubt avoid this trouble, knowing the characters already.

I am a big fan of anime, my favourite anime's are Street Fighter 2: the animated movie and Akira. This anime when I first came across it looked pretty cool from the cover. The fact is this anime is visually stunning the motion capture technique used in 'A Scanner Darkly' looks amazing mixed in with the CG background. The main lead is hot (and will have male teenager hearts pulsing), which helps but then we get a plot to extinct human race through infertility. To be honest the movie is a bit of a let down for me; not as visually cool in the battle scenes as Karas instead focusing on plot which is bold. In the end nothing is really fleshed out which leaves you with the 'Is that it?' feeling, decent but there are better animes out there.
