Excellent nail biter deserves to be seen.By sean1970 (42 reviews) , 09 Nov 2012
[Highly rated reviewer]Argo is a surprisingly enjoyable movie and is one of the better movies of the year.
Set in 1979 Argo sees the rescue operation of 6 Americans after militants storm the U. S. Embassy in Tahran taking 52 hostages but midst of the chaos six Americans manage to escape and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. So the CIA have to come up with a plan to rescue the 6 before they are found and killed. A CIA specialist played by Ben Affleck comes up with a plan that is so incredible it has to be seen to be believed.
Unbelievably based on a true story Argo is a tense, exciting, often amusing and thoroughly enjoyable thriller.
Excellently directed by Affleck and some brilliant performances makes this movie one of the surprises of the year. Recommended.

Good film? Yes. Best film? Can't say I agree.By Superdan (12 reviews) , 14 Oct 2013To begin on a positive note, with this feat Affleck continues to demonstrate his impressive ability and talent both in front of and behind the camera. To be completely honest, I think 'Argo' is a good film overall: Tense; Thrilling; Very good performances all round; And very well-directed. However, the film seemed to lack any kind of real... I guess you could call it 'heart'. My point is, by the end of it, it all seemed a little bit too cautious. So much so that I found myself feeling very detached, finding it hard to care at times, which isn't something I like having to admit about a film that is supposed to be the 'Best Film' of 2012. On the bright side, the story and the subject matter were both solid enough to keep me watching all the way to the end credits, and I can justly say that I'm glad that I spent those 2 hours watching such a well-woven (although overrated) spectacle.
Not to be missedBy crappo (54 reviews) , 11 Oct 2013A brilliant film and an authentic representation of events. The special features are worth watching too, Ben Afleck is the consummate professional and it's astounding how much work went into the authenticity aspect of this justifiably oscar winning movie. I'm going to buy it and i don't buy many.
A superior thriller, pick of the 2013 Oscar moviesBy davidginsberg (113 reviews) from London , 10 Oct 2013Watched this on Sky and we thought it was great stuff. Very exciting indeed. This is a textbook example on how to make an entertaining movie about a historical event. It has to be accurate but with enough license for it to engage the viewer. This really succeeds. As Ive said before I was so impressed with most of last years Oscar films (apart from the cr*p one about the tiger in the lifeboat) and this is no exception. The initial storming of the embassy is really well portrayed and sets the film up nicely. Stakes are established as being high which actually makes the plot all the more believable. This was the best worst option the CIA had to follow to get the embassy staff out. Affleck is great in the lead he doesnt show off but instead facilitates the telling of one of the most incredible spy stories ever. I really hope someone like him gets to make a film version of Agent Zig Zag. Superior stuff.
Film of the Year.By a customer , 06 Oct 2013Simply brilliant, the most tense film we've watched for a while. There are no weak points at all. If you like a film based on true events and are willing to accept a blob of Hollywood poetic license (e. g Munich, Apollo 13) then you must see this!!!!!!!!!!!
