Armadillo - the best war film i've ever seen
By a customer from sutherland, scotland , 18 Feb 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
Armadillo is the best war film i've ever seen. Although it is a documentary, it incorporates all the themes that fictional accounts seek to employ, except for the first time, they are visibly authentic. I found this review site looking to buy the film, as i want to keep a copy in my collection. I've watched every war film in popular cinema made in the past 70 years, including all the old classics and the new classics, and this one is the best, hands down. Kudos to the film maker, it is a brilliant and impeccable work. No other film so clearly shows the futility of modern colonial war; and whilst platoon, hurt locker and that genre make attempts, they are up against two dimenionsal characters and dramatic pretense.- Was this review helpful to you?

(16)The reality of war
By Dungbeetle (503 reviews) from London , 10 Nov 2011Danish film with subtitles and English. A cameracrew accompany a platoon during their tour of duty in Helmand province. It gives an honest insight into the attitudes of the soldiers and local civilians. The authorities who want a sanitised picture of war would probably prefer it if the film was not shown. Some of the soldiers felt betrayed by the end result but I think it did them justice in showing how human with all its frailties they all were. It also showed that war is not the answer. One of the best films on this subject.- Was this review helpful to you?

Ruined by poor sub-titles
By CageyS (18 reviews) from Lyme Regis , 30 Oct 2011I found this film very disappointing for one reason; the subtitles were almost impossible to read. They were much smaller than usual and often did not show up well against the background.
The filming, at times, was quite remarkable. Live filming of raw young soldiers experiencing Helmand, IEDs, the problems of distinguishing peaceful locals from the Taliban etc. should all have made for a gripping documentary but, for me, it was ruined by the subtitles.- Was this review helpful to you?

Over-Hyped, Over Here etc etc
By 5ft7offootballheaven (300 reviews) from London , 17 Sep 2011Judging by the blurb on the DVD cover and the casual excess of stars I expected this to be better. Some good beards on display. Its young men bonding in a foreign land and quite enjoying the action when it occurs. Shock horror. Some people (mostly young men) find fighting fun. Chuck in some porn and thats it basically. The smug Director and worse interviewer on the extras made me squirm a little. I didnt like Hurt Locker either. Whats wrong with me? - i used to like War movies.- Was this review helpful to you?

A Thoughtful Insight to a Soldiers Life
By Bluesman (73 reviews) from Derbys , 06 Sep 2011An extremely well balanced documentary about a troop of Danish soldiers fighting out in Helmond Province that manages to clearly present both the soldiers highs and lows as well as their own parents and loved ones back at home.
If you are looking for all out action then don't watch this movie but if you are looking for a thoughtful insight into a soldiers life then I recommend this movie.- Was this review helpful to you?
