Most helpful review
Why was this slated ?By Miles Orchard from Cardiff , 19 Feb 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]I absolutely love this film and has to be in my top thirty of all time films. It has everything and keeps you hanging on until the end. I rememebr watching this is in the cinema when it came out and remember having a lump in my throat a few times during the film.
This is a film that has the ability to grab you and not let you go until it's ready to let it's hold on you go. Bruce willis plays a great role but for me the highlight was Steve Buscemi as Rockhound - worth watching the film for him alone.
The music is pure American and includes the awesome ballad by Aerosmith that was a number one hit on release for a number of weeks. The sound is great especially through a 5.1 system and still holds up well 6 years after it's release.
One of the best Action movies in the last 10 years.

full of action one liners and flows well,as a good film does,, worth 5 stars,,
a bit sloppy and sentimentale at times, but worth it for the sp effects, and sound alone,,
play over a 5.1 and see,
very goodBy Sheltmistor (2 reviews) from Norwich , 17 Jun 2010If you haven't seen Armageddon yet then you have missed out, even if you think this isn't your type of film... you're wrong. It's a truly amazing film, great cinematography and fantastic acting. I won't spoil the plot or anything..... just watch it!
Hellfighters in spaceBy markashley1961 (12 reviews) from Bristol , 16 Jun 2010
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideHELLFIGHTERS in space, with Bruce Willis as John 'the Duke' Wayne, Liv Tyler as Katherine Ross, and Ben Affleck as Jim Hutton.
The worse thing about this film is the number of times a scene could have been so easily improved upon...
SPOILERS (as if anything could spoil this film more than the film itself )
Bruce shoots at Ben because he has slept with his daughter. FIX - Bruce kills Ben and we never have to see his face for the rest of the film.
Ben's shuttle comes to pieces and crashes, BUT Ben survives. FIX - Ben dies horribly in the crash, but everyone else is OK.
Ben draws short straw to detonate nuke, BUT Bruce takes his place and Ben lives. FIX - Bruce leaves well alone, goes back to his beautiful but stupid daughter, and Ben gets blown to oblivion by the nuclear explosion.
This is one of the most manipulative films that I have ever seen. Every other phrase is yet another one liner, accompanied by the obligatory emotional music. And as for those endless trips around the world to see the 'ordinary' people, again and again, over and over, 'and here we are back in Venice with more F***ING GONDOLAS'...
I like Science Fiction, I like special effects, but it has to done properly, not just repeating the same thing ad infenitum, and then never really making the most of it.
My advice is avoid this, see HELLFIGHTERS instead, you'll be watching a loud mouthed fascist arrogant sexist pig, but consider the alternative.

It made me cryBy 8Katie88 (26 reviews) from York , 12 Jan 2010I was told by all my housemates this was a terrible film and watching it was a waste of life. My boyfriend told me that all the terminology was wrong. So obviously I rented it. My opinion? If you want an accurate portrayal of astrophysics this is not for you. This is a film for soppy people who cry when Bambi's mother dies. If you like tearjerkers you will not be disappointed.
